Green Food Guide

The suppliers in this guide are aware of the impact they have on the planet. Each listing shows the company’s green credentials so you can see exactly what they are doing to help the environment - from recycling, saving energy and water, growing organic food and saving food miles by using local suppliers.

ImageAs a nation we’re increasingly concerned with where our food comes from, and the effect our weekly shop has on the environment. We want good food, at reasonable prices, from ethical companies who think about their environmental impact not their profit margins. This directory was established to promote food suppliers who are making every effort they can in producing food that is ethical, sustainable and environmentally friendly.
Each supplier’s circumstances are different as are the green measures they take - some are farms that only grow organic produce and try to promote wildlife, others are restaurants that reduce their food miles by using local suppliers. Some companies may use renewable energy sources, others have recycled packaging and have ditched the plastic bag. We’ve asked each supplier to provide their green credentials so you can make your own judgement about their policies. Customers can submit reviews so you praise their products and ethics, search for suppliers by county to help you shop locally, and find local farmers markets and food festivals that showcase the best food on offer. Our goal is to promote environmentally friendly businesses and help customers make greener choices.

So who are the people behind the Green Food Guide? We're not an association, an office teeming with people, we're not infact associated with any food or green organisiation. Its just me, a laptop, some knowledge of design and websites, and a passion for our planet. At home we try to be as environmentally friendly as possible, but this is my way of doing something more. And if it helps one green business promote its food, or one customer start using a box scheme - then its all worth while.

This is a growing website. If you have any ideas about new sections or what would make it better for use, please email us.

We hope you enjoy finding new suppliers, cooking great tasting produce, and eating “green”.
