Green Food Guide

Choose suppliers with great tasting products for guilt-free eating – buying fair trade products ensure the producers of the food get a fair price, improved working conditions and a better future. Organic farmers use natural methods that are environmentally friendly, encourage wildlife and consider the whole eco system in their farming methods.

How do I find a business?
BY CATEGORY - From the top menu roll over the Eat out, Eat in, and Events menus to find the type of food you are looking for. When you have selected, you can narrow the search by typing in your county, or browse through the listings. The categories are:
Eat Out – Restaurants / Cafes / Pubs / Vegetarian
Eat In – Meat and Game / Fruit and Vegetables / Fish and Seafood / Bread and Cakes / Dairy and Cheese / Grocery and online shops / Confectionery / Drinks / Box schemes
Events – Farmers markets / Food festivals / Local Events
BY ADVANCED SEARCH - Either click on the Eat out, Eat In or Events Menus along the Top menu, or click on the link within the listings pages. This will give you more criteria to search by eg: type of food the restaurant serves, children's facilities etc.

How do I search locally?
When you are in a category (eg: Eat Out - Restaurants), either type your county in the Search box or click on Advanced search to find more options.

I want to know more about the business - what do I do?
Click on the Read More link below each listing.
Each listing contains:
• Their contact details, including email and website link
• A list of the the products they sell or serve including their bestsellers
• Opening times and directions
• Map with location pointer
• Any awards and certifications
• Details of where to buy the products (markets, online, shops, restaurants etc.)
• Their Environmental Policy
• A full description of the business including up to 4 images

How can I add a review?
To add a review you need to login to the site. You can register for an account - go to the home page, on the right menu is a login form. It will say "No account yet? - Register". Click on this link.
It will ask you to input name, username, email and password. Remember the details you give as you will always be asked for your user name and password when logging in to the site. When you have clicked "Send Registration", we will send an email to the email address you gave. You need to click the link in this email to activate the account before you can login for the first time.

Once I'm registered, can I change my username?
No - sorry! If you do, you may lose any listings or saved searches under your previous user name.

I've forgotten my password, what do I do?
In the login form in the right hand menu, click on the "lost Password?" link. Enter your email address and user name and we will email you a new password. Once you are logged in with the new details, you can change your password to something more memorable in the My Profile page in the User Menu.

What can I say in a review?
You can rate the food, service and "Greeness" of each business and also add a comment. We moderate all comments and any using bad language will not be published. If you read any reviews on the site which you find offensive, click on the "Report this review" link and we will address the issue.

How can I add a listing to my favourites?
Again, you need to be logged in to the website to use this service. When you click on a listing to Read More, you will get all the information about that business. Near the top is a star icon like a medal with a plus sign over it. Click on this and the listing will be added to your Favourites. To view your saved favourites at a later date, click on the My Favourites link under the User Menu on the right hand side. (This menu will only be active if you are logged into the site). Your Favourites will be saved when you log out or navigate away from the website so you can view them at a later date.

What do the icons mean next to each listing?
Along the top right of each listing are three icons. They mean:
1. Pdf - opens the page as a pdf, and save it to your desktop
2. Print - prints the page (you must choose your printer when asked to)
3. Email - you can email the details to a friend
These icons appear throughout the site, so you can use them on the other pages, search as articles and recipes.

I know of a business that should be listed on here, but isn't - what can I do?
You can either email the business directly and tell them about the Green Food Guide, or email us and we will contact them. We are interested in producers and suppliers of food in the UK with a green environmental policy. This can be anything from growing or supplying organic food to using renewable energy on their premises. For the full list of Green Credentials that qualify a business, click here .

What is the Green Food Guide's store?
The Green Food Guide store shows a selection of eco products from the Amazon website. We have selected our favourite books (on both the environment and cooking), products for the kitchen and housewares, food and drink and seeds so you can grow your own food. Perfect for searching for gifts for friends or for yourself. Click on each product to learn more about it, add to your shopping cart, then when you're ready - proceed to checkout which directs you to the Amazon payment pages. You will be purchasing the goods from Amazon, not the Green Food Guide - so any issues regarding returns, payment or delivery should be sent to Amazon.
