Promoting your business on the Green Food Guide

Who can have a listing on the Green Food Guide?
If you are a producer or supplier of food in the UK with a green environmental policy you can join the Green Food Guide. This can be anything from growing or supplying organic food to using renewable energy on your premises. For the full list of Green Credentials you can select from, click here .

What is a listing?
Each listing contains:
• Your contact details, including email and website link
• A list of the the products you sell or serve including your bestsellers
• Opening times and directions
• Map with location pointer (based on your street and postcode)
• Any awards and certifications
• Details of where to buy your products (markets, online, shops, restaurants etc.)
• Your Environmental Policy
• A full description of your business including up to 4 images

Where will I be listed?
We have 3 sections  to choose from - Eat Out, Eat In and Events. Within each are categories - please choose one which best applies to you.
Eat Out – Restaurants / Cafes / Pubs / Vegetarian
Eat In – Meat and Game / Fruit and Vegetables / Fish and Seafood / Bread and Cakes / Dairy and Cheese / Grocery and online shops / Confectionery / Drinks / Box schemes
Events – Farmers markets / Food festivals / Local Events
Each listing can only be listed under one category.

What is the cost?
To list your business on the Green Food Guide is completely free. If you want help in promoting your business further, we can offer some great advertising packages (see below for details)

How do I list my business?
You need to sign up for an account - see below.
Login with your User name and password, and go to Submit new listing (under the User menu on the right hand side). For more information on submitting listings, see below.

Once I'm listed, can I change the information?
Yes - if you are logged in you can click on My listings (under the User menu on the right hand side). Next to each of your listings there are 3 icons.
1. Edit (the pencil) - click on this to change details. You must click Save at the bottom before navigating away from the page otherwise your changes will not be saved.
2. Publish (the tick) - if you unclick this, your listing will no longer be up on the site. However it will be saved in the database, so you can republish at any time.
3. Delete (the trash can) - if you click this your listing will be deleted from the site and our database - you will not be able to retrieve it.

How will customers find my listing?
Customers can choose a category from the Eat Out, Eat In and Events menus. They can also search by county to see suppliers close to them. The Advanced Search gives more options from them to choose from, eg: type of food the restaurant serves, children's facilities etc.

Can I do anything else to promote my business on the site?

You can also add details to the following sections, completely free. Just email us the name of the business, the town and the relevant copy. The copy will include a link back to your listing so customers can find you easily.
Specials of the Day
Email us with any offers and discounts and we’ll add them to this section - great for promoting seasonal specials, christmas offers and sales.
Recipes
Send us any recipes you love - links back to your listing so customers can see who the good cooks out there are!
Local Events
If you are hosting or know of a local food event – let us know the dates and details and we’ll put it on our calendar. Great for promoting your venue and product.

How can I be first on the listing page?
The listings that come first on each page or more likely to attract customer's attention. These are our HOT SPOTS. You can purchase a HOT SPOT for a month for £20 for 2 months. Click here for more details.

Can I have more than one listing?
Yes - if you have other green food businesses at different addresses you can list them separately. There are no fees for additional listings.

How can I tell people I am featured in the Green Food Guide?

Once you are a member you can add our "mark" to your own personal website or any other promotional items.


Signing up

How do I sign up for an account?
To submit new listings or use some of the features of the site, you need to register an account.
Go to the home page - on the right menu is a login form. It will say "No account yet? - Register". Click on this link.
It will ask you to input name, username, email and password. Remember the details you give as you will always be asked for your user name and password when logging in to the site. When you have clicked "Send Registration", we will send an email to the email address you gave. You need to click the link in this email to activate the account before you can login for the first time.

Can I change my username?

No - sorry! If you do, you may lose any listings or saved searches under your previous user name.

I've forgotten my password, what do I do?
In the login form in the right hand menu, click on the "lost Password?" link. Enter your email address and user name and we will email you a new password. Once you are logged in with the new details, you can change your password to something more memorable in the My Details page in the User Menu.

Listings

How do I submit a new listing?
You need to be logged in.
Click on Submit new listing  (under the User menu on the right hand side).
You will be asked which section - Eat In, Eat Out, or Events, and then which category you want to be listed under.
(You cannot change this once your listing is active - so think carefully!)
You will be asked to enter all your details - fields marked with the red asterix have to be filled in. If you need help, hover over the Information icon next to each field. If a field does not have a red asterix, you can add these details later eg: the images (see below for editing listings). You must press Submit at the end of the form before you navigate away from the page or all your details will be lost. Once submitted, all new listings are reviewed by us before they are published on the site. Depending on how busy we are, this may take a few hours, or a few days.

Where does my listing appear?

It will appear in the Category you selected eg: Eat out - Restaurants.

How do I edit my listing text and photos?

What are my Green Credentials?
These are the environmental policies you and your staff implement in the day-to-day running of the business - it is your responsibility to make sure these are up to date and correct on your listing. A list of them can be found by clicking here. Please email us if you think we should add any others.

My listing has disappeared. What do I do?
When you first submit a listing, we review them before publishing them on the site - there sometimes may be a delay of a few days depending on how busy we are. If your listing was published, but now isn't - go to My Listings and make sure the second icon is a tick, not a cross. Finally, if you are still having problems, please contact us, stating your business and user name.

When does my listing expire?
Never

How do I delete a listing?

Cick the delete link next to the listing - this only appears for listings under your user name and you need to be logged in. You can edit your listings easily in My Listings (under the User menu on the right hand side).

Why is my map wrong?
The maps are created through Googlemaps and are based on your postcode and street name. Check that you have entered both of these, and that they are correct. You should not include a house name or number in the street field.

Image Help

How do I add/upload photos to my listing?
Click the browse button and locate the image on your computer. Maximum file size is 300k.

Can I add a photo that exists on the web?
No, the image must reside locally on your computer.

Can I edit or remove photos from my listing?
Yes, at any time - go to My Listings under the User Menu. Click on the Edit icon, and scroll down to the Images. You can change which image comes up first on your listing, or delete images and upload new ones.

How many photos can I add?

You can have up to 4 photos per item listing.

Do I have to fill all photo slots for my listing?
No, you can leave as many blank as you like. If you don't upload any images, a generic Green Food Guide image will be featured next to your listing.

I'm having trouble uploading pictures, can you help?
Ensure that the file is 300k in file size or below – most users will timeout before uploading larger files than that. Ensure the file is a properly encoded .jpg, .gif or .png. Ensure there isn't a firewall that could be blocking your uploads.

What file format can I use for my photo?
The following file extensions are valid: .jpg, .gif and .png.

What dimensions should my uploaded photo be?
It doesn't matter - as long as the file size doesn't exceed 300k. It can be portrait or landscape.

What is the largest file size ("k size", mb) allowed for my photo?
300k. Larger sizes will fail to upload.

What resolution should my photo be?
Every image on the web is displayed at 72dpi (dots per inch).

Advertising

Can I buy advertising space on the Green Food Guide?
Yes - click here for our Advertising rates.

How can I become a Hot spot?
Hot Spots are our featured suppliers - they are always shown first on the listings page, and can be accessed through the HOT SPOT link in the right menu. You can upgrade your listing to this spot or only £20 for 2 months. Simply go to the Advertising section (in the menu along the bottom), and click on the BUY NOW button next to the Hot spot option. You can pay by credit card through the secure online banking system Nochex.

How long am I a Hot spot?
You will be in the new spot for 2 months. We'll email you a reminder when your time is almost up.

How can I advertise on the home Page?
Through the same system you can buy a spot on our home page. Go to our Advertising page, and select which position you'd like, paying by credit card through Nochex.

Can I edit a listing while it's featured on the home page?
Yes - you can change your listing.

How do I pay for Advertising?
Select which advertising option you would like. Click the button that says BUY NOW, then follow the on-screen instructions.

What is Nochex™?
Nochex is an online payment processing company widely used on the Internet to facilitate sales transactions. It allows buyers to securely use a credit card or their bank account to submit payment - it is an independent service.

Do I need a Nochex account, or can I just use a credit card?
You can just use a credit card.

Why is my credit card getting declined?
Ensure the following:
You are using a credit card or debit with credit card logo on it.
You are entering the correct CCV number. This number is the last group of numbers on the back of your card. Depending on your card, it could be anywhere from 2-4 digits. Most cards in the UK have 3-digit CCV numbers.
Your credit card number is not more than 16 digits long.

Customer Reviews

I've had a bad review - what do I do?
If its a customers' opinion that your business wasn't up to scratch, and you have addressed the problems, you could post your own review, such as:
Title: Owner's response to "Bad Service"
Comment: We're very sorry this reviewer had trouble with his order. We have since reviewed our staff training and returns policy, and hope these problems won't happen again.
If a review is a personal attack or uses bad language, you can click on the "Report this Review" link next to the review, and we will look into it.
